The Future Holds Adventure: A Family’s Plan to Embrace the Outdoors

What are you most excited about for the future?

We’ve talked as a family for several years about how we can “get out more” and do more with our children. We love to talk about walks or bike rides we would love to do, away from our local patch, yet when it comes down to actually putting the plans into action, we are met with obstacles… money, transport, time, equipment, weather, location, childrens ages, having a dog… and the list goes on! Ultimately, I think it depends on how much you really want these things, and what you can do to make your ideas a reality…

A couple of weeks ago my eldest got a bigger bike, and his younger brother was now able to “upgrade” to his old bike, which has gears. This suddenly opened up a world of possibility (we live in a hilly area and the reality has been that a non geared bike is hard on hills, especially for little legs!). Suddenly we can now consider exciting things like bike trails, and my zest for adventure has come back to life. I’d all but dismissed the idea that we could have the sort of fun you see other families having on Instagram*, but now my mind is alive with ideas again! The only way we can transport these bikes though is by making some changes to our vehicles, so I’ve taken the tough decision to sell my ‘pride and joy’ (and only) car and invest in a van. After all, what’s more important – a car that may appreciate and leave the boys with some cash when they are grown up, or to get out and have adventures with them, make memories and enjoy life right now … ?

So what am I most excited about for the future?

Making memories with my children, seeing more of Britain and opening up a world of adventure for us all as a family! And I hope you will join us on here as we do that – why not click on that subscribe button? Or we’d love advice in the comments on great places to head to once we have the van!

* To clarify, I know a lot of social media imagery is staged and “fake”, but it still is very inspirational, and has always given my imagination lots of ideas of things to do with my own family 🙂
