Month 3 Recap
Here’s another recap, this time from our September adventures. During August, with the children off school, and Dad and I having 2 weeks of annual leave to use, we really did make the most of that time and over the course of the month smashed through almost 90 miles. I was interested to see how well we would do in September, as school returned, and with it our routines. Fortunately, the enthusiasm for walking didn’t wain, and although it meant we were restricted to just weekend walks now, we still did a fairly respectable amount of mileage.
There have been some “new’s” this month. Our youngest got new walking boots (which prompted me to put this post together to help other parents with what to look for when buying children’s walking boots), and we’ve also added trekking poles to our walks! We’ve invested in some thermals/base layers and are determined to keep on walking throughout the winter season. We’ve been spending time learning about and using maps, and the boys mileage per walk has started to get longer, with their longest walk to date being just shy of 8 miles! I’ve been very proud of their perseverance over this month.

September in Numbers
Walks completed: 5 (wow really? Felt like more!)
Miles walked: 41.16
Bike rides completed: 0 (still don’t have a vehicle and bike rack!)
Miles cycled: 0

Conclusion
It’s been a busy ol’ month, with the return to school and work and our usual routines, and that shows with our drop in overall mileage. However, what’s been more important, is that we are all still regularly walking and getting outside, and every weekend has seen a nice long hike, whatever the weather’s thrown at us! It’s been difficult to get extra walks in after school with the number of after-school activities the boys do (various sports, Cubs and Scouts), and usually on Sundays my eldest has a football match too – so I don’t think we’ve done too badly! Everyone is still keen to get outside and do things which I guess is the most important thing! I’m still hopeful that my car will eventually sell and we can buy something more rugged, and a bike rack, because I’m dying to take the boys biking somewhere safe. They pester me every day now bless them. I still stand by that good things come to those who wait… We shall see!
Thanks as ever for joining us on our adventures through our posts! 🙂
