Family Adventures We’re Looking Forward To This Summer

What Are We Most Excited About for the Future?

There are so many things I could be excited about in the long term – but I don’t want to wish time away. So instead, I’m focusing on the next few months, and there’s plenty to look forward to.

I’ve got two separate weeks of annual leave booked during the summer holidays, which means quality time with the boys. One of those weeks will be spent in Scotland with their grandparents, and – fingers crossed – the van will be back with us in time for some walking adventures up there. Last year, we tackled the Blackadder Walk; this year, we’ve got our sights set on the Whiteadder Walk. We also loved the coastal route from St Abbs and hope to revisit it again. Our eldest has also expressed an interest to visit Holy Island again. We’ve visited many times, I love it there, but we’ve yet to do a proper walk around the island!

In August, we’ve got another week off, and as long as the weather plays nicely, we’re hoping to squeeze in more walks and bike rides together – maybe even a trip to the beach. We all have big plans for this week but of course we’re reliant on that sunshine, because let’s face it – no one wants to be caught in a sideways summer downpour with grumpy children and soggy sandwiches. 😂

Our eldest is also off on his own adventure this summer – a week in Guernsey with his scout group! He’s got some incredible activities lined up, from coasteering to climbing. I’m so excited for him – and also quietly hoping the weather treats them kindly too. Camping in a week of rain is character-building… but only fun in hindsight. I feel like I’m probably asking for a lot to want 3 weeks of nice weather this summer holiday 😂.

Here’s to a warm, dry summer holiday. (Rain is welcome during the night, except when S is camping of course 😅).

Even after the holidays end, I’m still excited for our weekends – for more walks, bike rides, and maybe even some progress on the van conversion (if I can squirrel away a few pennies!). We’re nowhere near having a kitchen or electrics, and we definitely don’t have a diesel heater yet, but I’m still hoping we can squeeze in at least one night away in the van this year – while it’s still warm enough not to freeze!

In a nutshell, I’m excited for more family adventures. More exploring. More memory-making. And hopefully, a few new places ticked off the list too.

What are you excited for this summer?

  1. Off to North Wales in the van later in the week for a long weekend (if the van comes back from the body shop in time, someone rear ended me a few weeks ago). Then off for outr summer hols back to the south of France for Kayaking and Paddle Boarding

    1. Oh no, hope everyones OK!! I hope the van is back ASAP! We’re also on a tight countdown hoping ours is back before our trip to Scotland to see family – it’s not fun waiting when you have plans. Really hoping you make it to North Wales. Look forward to hearing about the weekend and the trip to France too – sounds like it’ll be a wonderful trip!

      1. No major damage to the van, just some cosmetic scrapes and dents in the tailgate and bumper. Hopefully back tomorrow but if not we can use our awning and camp the old fashioned way
